Rachel Newman, daughter of artist Maurice Newman, began her artistic training in childhood with drawing classes at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington,DC.
She earned a BA in Philosophy and Art History at the Pennsylvania State University, but it was a plein air workshop in Tuscany in 1998 that cemented her path as a painter,
With a storied career in magazine publishing ---spanning nine titles and culminating in two decades as editor-in-chief of Country Living---Newman has garnered industry acclaim and university honors alike. But her true passion lies in painting.
She travels annually to Tuscany to paint landscapes under the tutelage of Maddine Insalaco and Joe Vinson. Her studies in New York City at the Art Students League, the National Academy, and the Grand Central Academy with Justin Wood have informed her skills in painting still life.
